THE THIRD MOUTH
3-channel video installation 4K, color, stereo, 3min 6s.
A triptych presents language as substance and centralizes its material production. Over the course of three simultaneous performative exercises, voice transforms into pliant element and is shaped with tongue(s): English, Spanish, Latin, and the Body. Various corporeal locations involved in the production of language are named and identified in an attempt to recognize the self. The spoken word reveals itself to be multiple and untranslatable; a mantra emerges—a foreboding sense repeats. Mouth becomes a distinct place for dispute.
